Re: Ski Nova Scotia – Race Calendar & COVID-19 Update
Dear members: We write to provide you with an update on the status of the AAA Race Calendar, and more generally, on the prospect of a return to competition this season. As of today’s date, the following events have been postponed:
Mont Farlagne January 8 - 9, 2022 Postponed – Date to be confirmed
Team Atlantic Cup January 21, 2022 Rescheduled for March 4th
WSRC Slingshot January 30, 2022 Rescheduled for March 6th
We have been advised by Ski New Brunswick that a decision regarding Crabbe Speed Week (scheduled for January 31st – February 6th) will be issued on January 19th, shortly following an update expected from the Province of New Brunswick. As soon as we hear, we will be sure to communicate this decision to our members.
We appreciate this leaves a great deal of uncertainty for this season’s race calendar. We are actively engaged in discussions with Sport Nova Scotia, who are providing guidance on a prospective return to competition. Like our friends in New Brunswick, we expect an update in the next 7 – 10 days from the Province of Nova Scotia concerning the next phase of restrictions and how they will apply to the world of competitive sport, at which time Ski Nova Scotia and its member clubs will be in a better position to evaluate the balance of this season’s calendar.
At this point, we remain optimistic that competition may resume within the Province to allow for U10 & U12 athletes to compete at Martock on February 12th and 13th. In the meantime, clubs should continue to train in accordance with public health guidelines, which permit training with up to 10 people indoors and up to 25 people outdoors without social distancing. Be reminded that masks are recommend when you cannot maintain a minimum physical distance of 2 metres (6 feet) from others.
Rest assured, we are committed to facilitating a safe return to competition in compliance with public health guidelines, just as soon as those guidelines permit. We understand it has been a long road, it being our third season impacted by the pandemic, and we thank you all for your patience and perseverance. Stay tuned - we will race again soon!
